GPS marker not showing in 4.2 PlayBook version

Magellan CompassIt looks like the “My Location” layer is not being initially selected in the 4.2 version of Magellan Compass (PlayBook).  4.2 allows the user to save which layers are initially selected at the start of the application.  It was suppose to have this layer (as well as some other default ones), when the app is first launch, but it appears this slipped by in testing.  We will resolve it for the next release and you can set the initial layers (including “My Location”) under Preferences / Layers.

Magellan Compass for BB10 Released

Magellan CompassV4.2 of Magellan Compass for BB10 has been uploaded to BlackBerry World for review.  BlackBerry seems to be having a bit of a backlog in processing application updates, so we really do not know when it will be available to users. This release includes those described in the PlayBook version, the removal of US Aviation Sectional maps (looking for replacement), and tested the phone functions within the application.

We are still seeking information from BlackBerry so that it can be launched in the same way as BlackBerry Maps, but that information is being hard to extract from them.  As soon as we are able to test the way the application can be launched, we will release an update (BB Maps does not seem to work on our device right now).

US Sectional Maps

It appears that the provider of the US Sectional Aviation map data has discontinued to provide that service.  We are making an effort to reach out, but there is limited information about them.  We will attempt to provide an alternative data source and update the software as soon as we are able to secure a reliable source.

Magellan Compass 4.2 for PlayBook Released

Magellan Compass4.2 version of the PlayBook of Magellan Compass has been released to BlackBerry World (aka App World).  It will probably be a few days before users have the opportunity to download this update since this week is a busy week for RIM.  But once it is available, users will now have:

  • Ability to save which layers are initially started when the app starts.
  • Measure layer that allows the user to pick points on the map and obtain distance and bearing to each point along the polyline.
  • Map scale layer shows a scale on top of the map.
  • Enhanced KML features to manage more KML files.
  • GPS Zoom layer that will dynamically adjust the map level based on the speed of the GPS sensor.  So at slower speeds, the map is zoomed in, and higher speeds, the map zooms out.
  • Enhance German translation.

Update to BB10 will either occur later this week or in two weeks based on information and updates we receive from RIM in the next few days.
